Mayor Barton called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.

Regional Councillor Garrod announced that food donations for 'Feed the Need' can be dropped off at Town Hall until September 27, 2024

Regional Councillor Garrod advised that the Senior's Information Fair will be taking place at the Seniors Centre on October 5, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Regional Councillor Garrod also advised that Tish MacDonald and 'Honour them Well' has organized a 100th birthday celebration of local veteran Jim Parks taking place on September 28, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at the Uxbridge Legion presented by '.

Regional Councillor Garrod advised that Social Service's Survey has launched.  It will be advertised on the Township's digital sign and through social media platforms.

Councillor Pickering reminded that there will be no Council meeting and Town Hall will be closed on Monday, September 30, 2024 to observe the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

Councillor Pickering announced that the Uxbridge Firefighter Memorial Statue and Garden unveilling is taking place on October 5, 2024 including a parade starting at 1:30 p.m. followed by the ceremony at 2:00 p.m.

Councillor Shreeve advised that the Zephyr Lions is hosting a community road clean up on Saturday, September 28, 2024.  Volunteers are asked to meet at the Zephyr Hall 9:45 a.m.

Councillor Beach reminded everyone to be mindful of farm vehicles on the roads as crops are being harvested.

Councillor Beach spoke to the 'Mayor's Cup' on September 16, 2024 at the Goodwood Go Kart track.

Councillor Popp spoke to the ribbon cutting that he, Mayor Barton and Councillor Pickering attended at Uxbridge Tailoring in the downtown on September 21, 2024.

Councillor Popp advised that the Uxbridge BIA is hosting a 'Ladies Night' in the downtown on October 17, 2024.  More information to come.

Mayor Barton spoke further to the Mayor's Cup which took place at Goodwood Kartways in support of the Cancer Society and the Uxbridge Hospital Foundation.

Mayor Barton also spoke to fundraiser in support of Ryan Fonse who was injured in a farming accident.  Mayor Barton thanked the Ott family for organizing this event.

Fire Chief Mike MacDonald and Mayor Barton presented the following Uxbridge Firefighters with their Long Term Service Awards:

  • John Verhoog       20 years

GORDON LAW, DEON JAMES AND BORDEN BESSETTE, UXBRIDGE PIONEERS HOCKEY CLUB re Request to sell alcohol at the Uxbridge Community Centre and on Pad 1 at the Uxbridge Arena during the Uxbridge Pioneers Hockey Club home games 

Borden Bessette introduced himself as a representative of the Uxbridge Pioneers Hockey Club and explained that the Uxbridge Pioneers are part of the Ontario Super Hockey League (OSHL), a competitive league for skilled players aged 20 and over. Mr. Law advised that their home games are scheduled for most Saturday nights, starting in October.  Mr. Law advised that they are requesting Council's support to sell alcohol at the Uxbridge Arena during their home games.

Mr. Bessette continued by introducing fellow presenter Gordon Law. With assistance of a PowerPoint presentation Mr. Bessette spoke to the 2024-2025 Uxbridge Arena Seating Plan, Function Plan and Promo Plan.  Mr. Bessette advised that the Arena seats 684 but will keep seating to 608 for safety reasons.

ANTONIO ROMANS, KESWICK TAXI SERVICES re Request for additional taxi owners licence

Antonio Romans introduced himself as the owner of Keswick Taxi and explained that he was present to seek two additional taxi licences to operate in the Township of Uxbridge.  Mr. Romans advised that the Town of Georgina does not have a limit on taxi plates and their fees are much lower.  Mr. Romans explained that he would like to see an amendment to the Township's Taxi By-law to allow for more licences and the elimination for the need to produce a letter from a doctor stating the taxi driver's ability to drive.

MICHAEL KERFORD re Request for approval of temporary lights at the Uxbridge Secondary School field to host evening high school football game on October 18, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Michael Kerford introduced himself and advised that he was part of a campaign to bring high school football back to the Uxbridge Secondary School.  Mr. Kerford spoke to the formation of the USS Junior Football team and advised that they would like to host their final home game in the evening on October 18, 2024 under lights.  Mr. Kerford advised that tower lights would be brought in the night before the game for testing and the game would have a 6:00 p.m. start and turned off at 9:00 p.m. Mr. Kerford concluded by requesting Council's approval to erect temporary lights at the Uxbridge Secondary School field to host evening high school football game on October 18, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Being a by-law to authorize entering into an agreement with Creative Outdoor Advertising (COA) covering the use of advertising recycling receptacles within the Township of Uxbridge.

Being a by-law to authorize entering into a one-year lease agreement with DC Hockey Concept with respect to space within the Uxbridge Community Centre (Arena)
